Thom Tuck: Straight To DVD

He's posh, he prances, he's got a floppy fringe. There's a horrible moment when you think you have accidentally wandered into a McIntyre gig. Relax though, this is all part of Thom Tuck's plans to defy your expectations in this quite brilliant show.

The premise of Straight To DVD sounds gimmicky: Tuck has spent a year watching every Disney sequel from Tarzan 2 to The Lion King 3 and is here to tell you how he got on. There are no clips, thankfully, just a small toy Simba on a table.

The movies are dissected at length, with rants about the plot twists of Bambi 2 and a thorough comparison of Aladdin 2 with Aladdin 3. But these are only a distraction from the real show, where Tuck recounts touching tales of his own broken heart. His delivery is perfect, always knowing where to find the humour and horror of his failed relationships. The desperately sad conclusion shows this DVD project to be far more than a daft gimmick. Tuck brings the mood back up with a musical encore, providing one of the most joyous moments in Fringe history.

Tuck has taken these forgettable films and constructed a show you will remember for years. It's even better than The Little Mermaid 2.
