Showcase: Darren Cullen

Darren Cullen is a self-unemployed artist, writer and occasional musician from Leeds who once studied at Glasgow School of Art and now subsists on various forms of potato products in that London.

He likes to make work about things he hates.

Pocket Money Loans offers payday loans to kids aged 3+ at interest rates as low as 5000% APR (853% cheaper than Wonga.com). The shop was open in London for two weeks last year and loans are still available at pocketmoneyloans.com

Action Man: Battlefield Casualties were part of the anti-army recruitment comic Join the Army (bethemeat.co.uk) intended as ultra-realistic depictions of the potential consequences of military service. The project received the backing of Veterans for Peace UK, who are collaborating with Darren on a short film featuring the dolls which will be released for Armed Forces Day later this year.

You may also know Darren as co-writer of The Skinny’s Mystic Mark column or the drummer in that old band Shitdisco.
