Wed 16 Mar: Sara Barker at Fruitmarket

Sara Barker discusses her current exhibition of new and exisiting works at the Edinburgh gallery, which span sculpture and painting. It's been a productive year for the artist, with this major solo show, an outdoor commission for Jupiter Artland and a site-specific sculpture within the new CONNECT110NS development across the road from Glasgow's Gallery of Modern Art. She'll be discussing her work from 6.30-7.30pm; tickets are free to book.

Thu 17 Mar: Project Cafe, Visual Artists Unit, GSFF & more

In Glasgow's Project Cafe this Thursday from 6pm is a Ten Books event, curated by artist Sarah Forrest, as part of the research project My Bookcase. Forrest will present 10 books that have shaped her artist's practice over the years. This is the third edition of the event, and Forrest will pick the next participant in the chain.

Visual Artist Unit go small in their new exhibition, Toaty Wee, this week. There are miniature works from artists around the world (easy to ship, you see?) and they'll be displayed in scale model gallery spaces by VAU member and artist Stuart Noble. The exhibition opens this Thursday from 6.30pm (BYOB) and continues until 7 April, by appointment – get in touch via hello@vau.org.uk.

Also this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, as part of this year's Glasgow Short Film Festival, Transit Arts will screen a selection of artist's films from the back of their van. On Thursday they'll be outside Pena Cafe on Eton Lane in Glasgow, then in CCA on Friday, and finally heading south on Saturday to The Glad Cafe; all screenings take place from 7-9pm.

In Edinburgh on Thursday evening, previous Stills exhibitor Dan Holdsworth will present his work and practice via a public conversation with Stills' Ben Harman. Broadly speaking, Holdsworth's work considers the meeting points of landscape science, technology and the history and traditions of landscape photography. To attend this Thursday's event, book here free.

Fri 18 Mar: BAS8 at ECA, new Voidoid exhibition

At 11.30am on Friday, as part of ECA's Friday Lecture Series, British Art Show 8 exhibitors Eileen Simpson and Ben White discuss their collaborative practice. Together, they "work at the intersection of art, music and information networks... to source, digitise and distribute out-of-copyright sound recordings." The lecture is free, with no booking necessary.

This Friday in Voidoid Archive, a new exhibition by three Glasgow-based artists opens. Titled Lair, it features recent work from Alex Sarkisian, Jack Cheetham and Adam Lewis-Jacob. The preview takes place this Friday from 7-9pm.

Sat 19 Mar: Edinburgh Printmakers, Graham Fagen at Hospitalfield

This Saturday, Edinburgh Printmakers throw their big end-of-winter sale, before an impending Spring changeover. There's a deal or two to be had, with some pieces of art going for £10, and EP promise 'rare and unusual fine art prints'. It's a one-day event, from 11am until 5pm – or until they've all sold out.

Also this weekend, there's the opening of Graham Fagen's exhibition at Hospitalfield Arts in Arbroath. It's a presentation of work first shown in Venice last year as part of the Scottish pavilion in the Biennale. There's new drawing work, sound pieces and sculpture, with inspiration coming from Robert Burns and reggae. On Saturday, Graham Fagen will present an in-conversation event from 3pm, before the opening reception from 4.30-6pm.

Sun 20 Mar: Sighthill Stone Circle

Celebrating a new Spring, there's an Equinox event planned for Sunday in Glasgow's Sighthill Stone Circle. Keeping it earthy, there will be the chance to fire ceramics using a traditional outdoor paper kiln with ceramicist Kevin Andrew Morris. This is also the last time the Equinox will be celebrated in the stone circle's original location, before it's moved over the next few months. Pagan delights will be supplemented with live music, food and drink, all from 1.30-5.30pm.
