Glasgow School of Art charity auction announces artists

Glasgow artists donate their work for charity auction

Article by News Team | 11 Feb 2014

On 8 March, a selection of Glasgow's most celebrated artists will see their work auctioned for charity at the Glasgow School of Art's newly-renovated Victoria Cafe, with the proceeds going to the GSA Students’ Association (GSASA), celebrating the return of The Art School to its original Garnet Hill building, and the return of the Glasgow institution that is 'The Vic.' A portion of the money raised will be given to the MFA course leaders, to aid GSA students in a variety of activities, including curating and presenting exhibitions and artworks in the GSA building's new project spaces.

Glasgow, as a city, has carved out a reputation as one of the foremost places in the UK for contemporary art, with a whole host of Turner Prize nominees and winners passing through the GSA early in their careers. A few of them have donated work for this auction – the list of donors so far features David Shrigley, Duncan Campbell, Martin Boyce and Ryan Gander, Toby Paterson, Eva Rothschild, Claire Barclay, Simon Starling, Luke Fowler, Ross Sinclair and Jeremy Deller. The auction is an annual event, also featuring artwork from GSA's MFA students – but the chance to buy an original piece by the likes of Deller, Shrigley or Sinclair is a unique opportunity.
