Wed 9 Mar: New work at Good Press, talk at CCA

We open at Glasgow's Good Press, where We're All on an Island Somewhere... begins from 6-9pm with a video night. This kicks off artist Nick Lynch's (kind of) residency in the gallery for the month that will take the form of an informal string of events, as well as an installation. On the playlist, there's a short documentary on artist, nun and activist Sister Corita Kent, as well as some  artists films, music videos, and much more. Everyone's welcome, and Good Press also promise refreshments.

Wednesday also features a conversation in the CCA between current exhibitor Merlin James (reviewed here) and gallerist Andrew Mummery. They will discuss the current show of works from across James' career as a fine art painter, as well as considering more broadly painting and its place in the visual arts. The event's from 6.30pm on Wednesday; tickets are free and available here.

Thu 10 Mar: Cooper Gallery, Inverleith House, Rhubaba

From Thursday in the Cooper Gallery, there is an exhibition by the Poster Club, a group of artists from Glasgow, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and Brussels who collaborate and make posters alongside each of their own practices. This exhibition comes after their visit to Shanghai last summer, and continues the group's interest in the possibilities of printing text and visuals onto diverse materials, within a thoroughly collaborative context. There are artists' talks from 4.30-5.30pm, then the exhibition preview from 5.30-7.30pm.

In Edinburgh from 7pm is Slide Night #3 at Rhubaba. It's a subtle subversion of the slide show, with participants presenting their own compositions and appropriated texts alongside images in order to make disconnected narratives, tangents and dead ends. Presentations begin from 7pm this Thursday.

Also in Edinburgh on Thursday night, there is a British Art Show 8 event at Inverleith House. Exhibiting artist James Richards and Isla Leaver-Yap, Director of Lux (Artist Moving Image Agency) Scotland, present a series of films, including Richards' own piece entitled Raking Light. Tickets are £3/2, and bookable online via Eventbrite.

Fri 11 Mar: Sara Barket at Fruitmarket, Lizzie Hudson at CCA

Opening this Friday, there is the solo exhibition by Glasgow-based artist Sara Barker in the Fruitmarket Gallery. For this show, newly commissioned work will be shown with existing works as a way of showcasing Barker's practice, combining sculpture and painting. Oscillating between smaller wall-based work and larger public sculpture, she's featured in this month's magazine for her skeletal metal work included in Mary Mary's group show Geographies of Dust and Air – read our review here.

In Glasgow, artist Lizzie Hudson presents Logic May Indeed Be Unshakeable, a new installation that addresses 'data, duplicity and deceit' via scultpural forms and visual references to 'power balances aided by machines.' This Friday's private view takes place from 7-9pm in the CCA's Intermedia Gallery, and the exhibition continues until 1 April.

Sat 12 Mar: ECA students at Assembly Roxy

Three Edinburgh College of Art students have arranged a painting show on Saturday at Assembly Roxy this Saturday from 7-9pm. Jessica Fagan, Karen Cooney and Grace Woodcock will show new paintings in The Snug Room of the venue; the one-night only show is open from 7pm and drinks will be provided.

Sun 13 Mar: Youth art workshop at Fruitmarket Gallery

On Sunday, for yourself or the young person in your life, there's an art workshop in The Fruitmarket Gallery for 16-25 year olds. Delivered by artist Louise Fraser, this is a bit of a meta event. The young people who attend will be schooled in how to arrange art events and workshops, with the opportunity to deliver workshops on the second Sunday of the month. There's only eight spaces and somehow still a few spots available, so move fast, young people! Book here fast.

Mon 14 Mar: FOAM collective at ECA Tent Gallery

In the Tent Gallery into next week there is the opening night for Leave No Trace, an exhibition by ECA student-run FOAM collective. Expect 'both undergraduate and postgraduate work ranging from site-specific installations to video, performance and sculpture'. The opening takes place in the ECA Tent Gallery in Evolution House, 78 West Port, EH1 2LE.
