Ellie and Oliver's Friendship Festival

There’s nowt like a right good blether with your chums. Artists, flatmates and bosom pals, Ellie Harrison and Oliver Braid set up their popular radio show specifically to devote time each week to their friendship. The Ellie and Oliver Show is a cosy half-hour spent in their Glasgow living room, broadcast every Friday at noon.

Now they’re sending the love to you over the airwaves, by holding a Friendship Festival. Airing over three weekends, it coincides with Glasgay! Festival, whose theme this year is – aptly – Unions. The theme refers to both the ongoing debate on same-sex marriage and the potential devolution of Scotland and England.

The radio show will undergo a takeover by guests from around the UK, from artists and activists, to club night hosts and YouTube stars.

“We’re hosting a real variety of people, whose opinions will definitely transcend their connection to the LGBT community,” says Braid. “We’re not really into people having to ‘identify’ as a type, but sometimes it’s difficult to balance that with the sense of responsibility for positive awareness.

“Most importantly, we were drawn to people who are ‘doing it for themselves’, living lives that don’t rely on mass approval, as this is a central belief behind the whole Ellie & Oliver Show.”

With Braid and Harrison topping up their hot beverages, the hosts will share their intimate and provocative thoughts on the theme of friendship. Performance artists Laurie Brown and Rosanna Cade will discuss ‘Confessions.’ Lucy and Sophies Holmes-Elliot, founders of the club night, magazine and filmmaking group, Lock Up Your Daughters, will converse on the ever-relevant theme of ‘Beasts.’

Going by the show’s usual fare, we can expect cosy chats, ha’penny philosophies and much hilarity. And if you’re a resolutely lonely sod, you can hear it all from the comfort of your armchair.

Friendship Festival will air at noon on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 20 Oct - 4 Nov. You can listen online at www.ellieandoliver. co.uk/ http://www.ellieandoliver.co.uk/
