Scottish indie legends Belle and Sebastian (pictured) rally together an all-star cast for a special Save the Children charity gig, with the drip-fed released line-up now fully revealed as Franz Ferdinand, Mogwai, Young Fathers, Charlie Burchill and Jim Kerr (of Simple Minds), plus a comedy stint from Josie Long, and an after-show DJ set from Optimo. All profits got to Save the Children’s Child Refugee Crisis Appeal. You can also catch B&S in warm-up mode at The Alahambra Theatre, Dunfermline the evening prior. |

Exploring the boundaries of where music, art, performance, and digital technology meet, the third Sonica fest gets under way – with some of the first day's highlights being an opening electro-acoustic performance by Speak Percussion and Robin Fox at Tramway, Oliver Ratsi's 3D mapping installation at CCA (pictured), the unveiling of a special commission from Indonesian artist Jompet Kuswidananto at Govanhill Baths, and more. 3. MUSIC | Halloween Apocalypso

For the first of the week's Halloween events (scroll down for more), DIY label Lost Map pitch up at The Rum Shack for their annual themed musical frightener – this time in cahoots with new Southside club night Apocalypso (hosted by label signee Insect Heroes) – headlined by Our Ladies of Sorrow (aka eagleowl in their Halloween-only kraut-goth guise), plus Monoganon (pictured), Sharptooth, and more. Dress code: 'extinctions and endangered species' (aka make like a tyrannosaur). |

Glasgow Film Festival pops up for a special one-off screening of Wim Wenders’ Wings of Desire, showing as part of BFI Love Season, pitching up in the atmospheric surrounds of Paisley Abbey for a bells'n'whistles airing including specially-commissioned site specific responses from experimental musos Tut Vu Vu, artist Kathryn Elkin, and aerial performers Spinal Chord. Basically, prepare for summat magical. |

5. CLUBS | Fire Walk With Me: Twin Peaks Halloween Party

Twin Peaks-themed Halloween club night Fire Walk With Me returns for another year, again decking out the Wee Red Bar to the tune of David Lynch's cult 90s TV show and eponymous film – including audio-visual projections, screenings of deleted/rare footage, bespoke lightshow and decorations, set to a soundtrack of jazz musicians (pre-12am) and DJs curating sets based on the original Angelo Badalamenti scores. |

6. COMEDY | Ross Hepburn is Beetlejuice'd

With a spooky smattering of Halloween-themed club nights to pick from, may we direct you towards the alternative offering of comedian Ross Hepburn's Beetlejuice'd – a solo comedy set centred around his favourite classic horror film (erm, that'd be Beetlejuice), followed by a screening of the film itself. And the best bit – it's free entry for all. Dressing up in character encouraged (a la Hepburn, pictured). |

Literary merrymakers Neu! Reekie! step out for Halloween, marking their penultimate outing of the year (before their Christmas biggie that is, which you can win VIP tickets for here) – with headliners FOUND (pictured) launching their new LP, plus Dundee popsters Be Charlotte, spoken word care of James Robertson and Caroline Bird, an animation showcase from Ross Hogg, and Hector Bizerk's EP film The Bird That Never Flew, with band introduction.

DIY brew-it-yourself brewery Krafty Brew head off-site to Thomas Morton Hall for a one-off booze and music fest – Krafty Ale Ascent – featuring a headline set from Caithness psychedelic indie-rockers Neon Waltz (pictured), joined by Irenie Rose, Declan Welsh, and more, plus slurpable delights including their special brews of Honey and Black Pepper Amber, Chocolate and Chilli Porter, Ginger Pale Ale, and, yes, even a Christmas Pale Ale. |

For Halloween in yet another guise, volunteer-run performance community Beltane Fire Society host their annual winter-welcoming outdoor celebration of the ancient Celtic festival of Samhuinn, for which a procession of performing painted bodies will snake their way through Edinburgh's Old Town depicting the battle between the Summer and Winter Kings (spoiler: summer loses), pitted with live drumming, fire play, dance, and performing buskers. |

10. FOOD & DRINK | Cocktails in the City

We end as all weeks really should – with cocktails! – as Cocktails in the City makes its return to the capital, offering creations mixed by a selection of sixteen handpicked Edinburgh bars (including Paradise Palms, Treacle, Clouds and Soil, and The Blackbird: full list here), alongside a series of 'how to' demonstrations, tastings, food stalls, and DJs. There's even the new addition of a non-alcoholic cocktail bar for the saintly among you, care of Juniper Festival. |
