Tate Liverpool is an art gallery in Liverpool. It's the Liverpool branch of the family of Tate galleries around the country and one of the city's many free attractions and museums. In fact, you'll only ever need to pay to get into special exhibitions here so it makes a brilliant free day out.
Tate Liverpool's home is a converted warehouse on the historic and iconic Albert Dock — one of the city's top tourist attractions (and most stunning spots) which is just across the road from Liverpool One. Pop into an exhibition at the Tate, take a stroll around the Albert Dock and then grab a bite to eat at Liverpool One and you've got a pretty perfect day out in Liverpool right there.
The gallery displays works from the Tate Collection, which includes British art from 1500 to the present day, and it also plays host to regular temporary exhibitions and an active events programme. The collection includes work by Francis Bacon, Marcel Duchamp, Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore and Andy Warhol so it's a great place to see some of your favourite works or discover something new.
Tate Liverpool is within walking distance of the city centre and Liverpool's major train stations, but if you're coming by car you'll find the massive Waterfront Car Park a couple of minutes' walk away nextdoor to the Echo Arena. [Laura Maclean]
