There’s much that goes on in the Sauchiehall and Bath Street lanes that one might describe as ‘creative’, but not necessarily in a traditional context. RGI Kelly is the exception to the rule here. Owned and operated by the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, an organisation you’re more likely to find at work in far grander environments, the single-room, street-front gallery hosts a year-round programme of contemporary painting, sculpture, jewellery and more. The spring and autumn months also see a series of lectures and talks by practicing artists, and individuals linked to the institute.
Additionally, the gallery is keen to host work by artists on the outset of their career, and in the past has benefitted from no small amount of funding to help achieve this. Hire costs are relatively minimal, as is the minimum exhibition period, so expect plenty of quick turnarounds and new material on display throughout the year.
