Launched by two former librarians in 2017, This Way Up is one of the most recent additions to Dundee’s cultural West End.
The shop specialises in all manners of classic and modern fiction, with a strong focus on science fiction and 20th century literature. As a member of the Alliance of Radical Booksellers, it also strives to stock a wide variety of titles informed by socialist, anarchist, environmental, feminist or anti-racist concerns. The shop is a great source of inspiration for those willing to take the time to browse.
Stocking both new and second-hand records, the vinyl section is small and distilled, featuring a hand-picked selection of both well-known and obscure titles across reggae, hip-hop, jazz, punk, metal, electronic and more. The shop also boasts an extensive second-hand tape section, as well as a constantly rotating selection of CDs and DVDs.
A participant of Record Store Day and Cassette Store Day, as well as other events throughout the city, including Leftfest, and hosting resident DJ sets at the neighbouring Underworld Cafe, This Way Up is a bustling addition to Dundee's cultural scene.
