Simpsons, formely known as Tea and Cake/Tea Ann Cake, is an independent, family-run cafe owned by three generations of the Simpson family on Exchange Street, fondly referred to as Downtown Dundee.

Simpsons are committed to running an ethical and sustainable business using only fresh, locally sourced produce which stimulates the growth of the local economy and helps to reduce their carbon footprint. The vegetables are grown at The Walled Garden at Cambo Country House Estate and Grandad Bill’s Allotment; the meat comes from Puddledub Farm in Fife or Yorkes of Dundee; the flour is grown and milled in East Lothian at Mungoswells Farm; the fish is landed in Arbroath every day; the dairy is from Kerr’s in Dundee; the eggs from Scotston Farm Auchterhouse; and the sourdough from Wild Hearth Bakery in Comrie – the only bread they don't make themselves.

Continuing on the carbon footprint-reducing theme, the cafe has also eliminated single use plastics. Their straws are made from non-toxic BPA-free stainless steel, which can be placed in the dishwasher, and they sell bamboo reusable takeaway cups, with a discount incentive for customers who use these.

The early bird breakfast menu runs between the hours of 08:30-10:00am before moving on to the popular brunch menu, running up until midday. The lunch menu features house favourites including soup, sandwiches and the all-day brunch, which is served until the cafe closes. The family-friendly cafe also provides an excellent and varied kids menu, where there is something for even the fussiest of eaters.
