Located in Dundee's Blackcrofts area, the Reading Rooms is one of the city's favourite hotspots for a night out. For those with a clear enough head to appreciate it, the building – alluded to through its name – was once St Roques Library. The outer appeal of the building extends to the Italian style terrace, which acts as a smoking area and outside spot to drink.
Inside this intimate venue, various DJs host an eclectic choice of music nights – from electro to house, disco to rockabilly, and hip-hop to soul. Between the music boffins and regular attendees, the place can get pretty packed. For this reason it is often advisable to head down beofre midnight to ensure you get in before capacity is reached. Their most frequented nights include the monthly 50s and 60s-themed Locarno, Rooms Thursday, Headway's house and techno showcase, as well as sell-out nights from well-known touring DJs and bands, of which the mighty Mr Scruff is one of them.
