A permanent fixture on Manchester’s clubbing scene, weeknights see students flock to Joshua Brooks' listed Victorian basement venue on Wednesdays for the Juicy DJs, specialising in hip hop, r ’n’ b and ‘basement bangers’. Weekends offer an eclectic mix of music —anything from drum ‘n’ bass to house tunes, and everything in between — appealing to an older audience rather than weeknight students, but keeping drinks wallet-friendly. It’s not just in the evening that Joshua Brooks comes to life; open from noon every day, the Princess Street bar offers a selection of gourmet pies, bargain craft beers and regularly screens live football and rugby games in the upstairs lounge. There's plenty of offers on too, with two for one cocktails every Sunday and cheaper drinks for members of the bar every weekday. Keep an eye out for regular quiz nights, free film screenings and the occasional stand-up comedy night, as well as theatre productions and art on display by local creatives. [Charlotte Davies]
