North Country
The pain of the story, and the frankness and warmth of its telling are strengthening somehow.
Josey Aimes (Charlize Theron), meek, beautiful and inoffensive, escapes her husband's bloody abuse and flees to her parents in their small mining village in Northern Minnesota. She just wants the earth to open up and swallow her. Her wish is granted; there are jobs to be had at the mine. Soon the spite and abuse which has pockmarked her life re-manifests itself, as she and the other women are treated like shit, or worse. Taking stock of what you've got against this harsh, eked out film is inevitable, as it depicts the human spirit breaking itself and coming together again. The pain of the story, and the frankness and warmth of its telling are strengthening somehow. Theron, Sean Bean, Woody Harrelson and Frances McDormand form the tight, rock cores, who punch through for award garnering director Niki Caro.
This film is released on Feb 3.
