This club is popular with students who want something different from the plethora of clubs playing house and dance music. 42s is unmistakably alternative compared to other clubs, playing indie classics every night. Expect to hear plenty of Oasis, Arctic Monkeys and The Stone Roses here, as well as giving a nod to future indie superstars with music from newer acts such as Deap Vally, Foals and Bastille. If you like to dance to rock ‘n’ roll as well as a few Northern Soul tunes chucked in here and there, 42s is your home.
Behind the bar the drinks are pretty standard, but they’re cheap as chips, especially at Skint every Thursday, when you can get £1.20 bottles and 60p shots — possibly a bad move if you’ve got an early lecture the next morning.
