Located in the Urbis building just outside Manchester city centre, the National Football Museum houses four floors of football history and boasts one of the greatest football collections in the world. The museum holds a huge collection of British football artefacts - over 140,000 items to be precise - and is dedicated to explaining how football has become the world's most popular sport through rare and famous items, films, and iconic stories. A large amount of the collection has been donated by fans over the years - including photos, merchandise and fanzines - documenting the sport's history from a more personal perspective. With exhibitions running through the year the museum focuses on all aspects of the game from the past to the present, and even suggests what the future may be like for 'the beautiful game'. The free entry museum aims to educate everyone, from casual football fans to even the most ardent football supporters, and is also incredibly family friendly with plenty of interactive sections for children. [Charlotte Davies]
