Alliance Francaise is Manchester’s very own centre for French language and culture, offering French lessons for all levels and organising cultural events in Manchester and further afield. Part of a worldwide network of French language centres originally launched in Paris in 1883, the Manchester leg has been open since 1997. The school welcomes people with language abilities of all ages, offering GCSE, A Level and university level courses as well as starter classes for children and general conversation if you want to brush up on your French before going on holiday. The centre also holds plenty of events throughout the year, including film screenings, Q&A sessions, live music and yearly Bastille Day celebrations. It also has a public French multimedia library, lending out children’s books, literature, travel and current affairs, as well as films, CDs and magazines. They also offer a ‘study abroad’ programme in one of their five partnered French towns. [Charlotte Davies]
