Nestled between Edinburgh University’s main campus and the bustle of Nicolson Street is Wildmanwood, a contemporary and increasingly popular pizza joint.

Owned by the same kind chap that brought us The Apartment, The Outsider and Ting Thai Caravan (all of which are regularly queued out!), Wildmanwood is perfectly situated for students and summer festival go-ers.  It’s also handy for people looking for pre-show fodder, as it’s a mere stone’s throw from Festival Theatre, and within easy walking distance to The Queens Hall.

The interior is slick and contemporary, the concrete floors and reclaimed furniture giving it the edge of an East London bistro, and yet the cooking methods are anything but modern, with all pizzas cooked on a traditional wood burning oven.  Rumour has it that the staff were even flown out to Naples to hone their skills - as far as authenticity goes, it doesn’t get much better than that!

The pizzas are affordable and perfectly thin and crisp (none of this deep pan malarky!), while the garlic focaccia will undoubtedly leave you in a happy food trance for hours.  For those looking for a lighter option, there’s also a selection of healthy salads, from the conventional to the weird and wonderful combination of squid and chorizo.

There’s a similarly decent selection to choose from on the drinks menu, and with prosecco on tap and mojito sorbet to melt away your pizza baby after, what’s not to love?
