Tuk Tuk is proud to fly the flag for Indian street food, claiming to bring the tastes of India today and the food of the people to Edinburgh. Located on Leven Street across from The Kings Theatre, Tuk Tuk serves a concise menu of Indian street food tapas-style. There’s a selection of lamb, chicken and veggie dishes that include familiar foods like samosas and pakora as well as items you wouldn’t find on a typical Indian menu – like Railway Station Lamb Curry, and their amazing miniature burgers.
The interior is a far cry from your traditional Indian restaurant, looking more like a modern canteen with charcoal walls, wooden panels and suspended lampshades. Plus, it's BYOB (which can be gentler on the old purse strings), but they do offer plenty of soft drinks including Lassi – a delicious Indian style smoothie – in several exotic flavours such as guava and lychee. And don't even get us started on their pistachio and almond kulfi ice-cream.
You don't have to take our word for it though - Tuk Tuk's credentials speak for themselves. Every year, we hold a Food and Drink survey in which you, the readers, can vote for your favourite bars, restaurants, cafes and food shops in your area. Tuk Tuk was voted into the category "Best of the Indian Subcontinent", along with the likes of Mother India Cafe and Kismot. If you're keen to get more info about international food in Scotland, check out our feature about Tuk Tuk and the rest of the victors within the category. Or, if you want to take your research to the next level (let's face it, who wouldn't), why not head on over to our full list of winners from the 2014 Food and Drink Survey? And while you're there, probably worth a wee glance at the 2015 list too.
