There's nothing sweeter than the taste of success. Well, maybe a cheeky little sourdough flatbread. How about a place which offers both?
Ransacked Black Oven started life as a humble venture. Inspired by their worldy wanderings, the owners set up shop in 2017, selling their Persian-inspired food across Edinburgh's markets from the wood-fired wheels of their trademark truck. Such was their popularity that they've now found themselves a permanent bolthole, right in the heart of the capital's student quarter.
Primely placed, a mere stone's throw from the Meadows, George Square and the Festival Theatre, Ransacked Black Oven's quick and informal dining options make it a neat place to stop by if you've got a quick gap between lectures or you're looking for a spot of pre-show scran. The menu offers up an exciting selection of Middle Eastern street food, ranging from homemade flatbreads to marinated meats, loaded salads, pestos and falafel. The hot options are served straight from the eponymous wood burning oven, and there's a tempting array of oils and dips on offer if you're looking to add a little pizazz to your dish.
Not sure where to begin? You'd be wise to gather a gaggle of pals and tuck into one of the sharing boards, or a bustling bowl of fatteh, which are like the sourdough equivalent of nachos, loaded with your choice of shawarma spiced chicken or baba ganoush. After all, sharing is caring. With its scrummy tapas options and chunky wood-heavy interior, Ransacked is a place which'll hook you in.
