Static Union are a four-piece rock band from Glasgow’s Southside whose influences include The National, Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Joy Division and early U2.

New single Accelerator follows their debut Turn Out the Lights, which was released in January of this year to critical acclaim from the likes of BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway and Amazing Radio’s Jim Gellatly.

"The song is about having someone to encourage you," explains Sean McGarvey, Static Union’s frontman and rhythm guitarist. "The riff at the end is inspired by the more aggressive guitar playing of Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead – it was the first song where I started experimenting with a lower vocal register. The video was directed by Bob Rafferty and filmed at The Poetry Club and other locations in Glasgow. We love Glasgow and wanted to feature the city in the video.”

Lead guitarist James Harker adds: “Our sound has evolved a lot in the last six months. We've always loved rock tracks with a proper no-nonsense funky groove behind them, a real sweet and sour kind of thing. We've tried to get that feeling with the lyrics and arrangement for this song. The video will look familiar to anyone from Glasgow as it was shot all over the city. It gives a feeling of speed that fits the song. We think it's important to remember where you're from. We're proud of Glasgow and everything it's got going for it, especially its people.”

As with the previous single, Accelerator was recorded and mixed by Paul McNally at 45 Recordings in Glasgow and mastered by Pete Maher in London.

Accelerator is released on 17 Mar
