Gayfield Creative Spaces, just off Gayfield Square, started life as a tyre depot, and since 2001 it has been transformed into a series of venues and workshops which now have the aim of encouraging creative collaboration in Edinburgh. The space houses many artistic disciplines, and with this multi-disciplinary collaboration, founder Dr John Ennis has a number of aims for the future. Within the space, he wants to explore the connection between art, design and mental health and wellbeing, find how art and design can create wealth for local communities, provide emerging artists a platform for creating and showcasing their work, facilite international connections for these emerging artists and encourage resource-efficient design initiatives. In this spirit of working together and creative collaboration, Gayfield Creative Spaces offers a year round programme of talks, exhibitions, events and workshops which encourage the local community to learn about and celebrate Scottish contemporary art and design. The aims of the multiple venues attached to Gayfield Creative Spaces are echoed in these events, workshops and talks, which often invite local artists to share their artistic passion with the local community. Whether you’re an artistic novice or a maker yourself, Gayfield Creative Spaces offers the opportunity to meet like-minded people and share a love of art and design.
