There's a rich history wrapped up in the title of this joint. It's been around since 2011, and originally the place was called Vespbar (we'll keep our opinions to ourselves on the pun). However, when bonnie Scotland was working out whether it fancied independence, owners Suz and Jim declared their support for the cause by renaming the entire bar in tribute to the Yes voters. Carlsberg don't do Euro-themed Scottish independence tribute bars, but if they did...

Vespbar’s a great alternative to the mighty Bier Halle for that all important beer and pizza combo. Built over three floors and sporting a cheeky continental 50s interior, the Italian-themed bar does a few things its own way, not least the half-metre/metre-sized pizzas, and Prosecco Frizzenti on draught tap – just don’t embarrass yourself by asking for a pint of it. The Euro-café aesthetic may sound a little dated, but luckily it’s toungue-in-cheek enough not to ruin the experience.

Vespbar is also home to Tutti Bar, a versaltile basement space for gigs, stand-up, sports and private parties. If Vespbar’s twitter feed is anything to go by, sports fans get treated particularly well with rumours of free half-time pizzas abounding. Don’t hold us to this, though.
