The 78 is an accomplished and popular vegan spot just off the Finnieston strip. Part of the same family as Stereo, Mono and The 13th Note, The 78 has been bringing unassuming meat-free menus to Glaswegian diners for over a decade.

In recent years, an influx of vegan eateries have popped up across the city, but the popularity of The 78 has not waned. The interior is a cosy combination of mismatched dark wood dining tables, comfortable armchairs, gig posters and a real-life coal fire in the corner. It is a friendly place with a homely living room vibe – if your living room came complete with a terrific selection of local and international beers.

DJs on Friday and Saturday nights and live jazz on Sunday evenings are part of a weekly programme of events in the bar. Punters can also enjoy an unplugged night on Wednesdays or the popular “Dub and Grub” Reggae Night on a Thursday.

The food on offer has an international flavourl; dishes like Tofu Curry and Jackfruit Shawarma line up alongside meaty seitan burgers served on sesame brioche buns with charred onions. One of the few places in Finnieston where every main course costs less than a tenner, which is reason enough to go for us.

Every year, The Skinny holds a Food & Drink Survey, where we give you the opportunity to vote for the best restaurants, pubs and cafes in town. The 78 earned a few spots in our 2019 survey, getting a podium place in both the Best Vegetarian and Vegan category and the Best Pubs and Bars category.
