Manchester's very own water palace, complete with stained glass, terracotta, tiles and mosaic floors, which is now a grade II listed building and much-loved restoration project. The Chorlton based swimming baths opened in 1906 but then closed as a public pool in 1993. After a determined campaign for the baths to reopen, the building is now primarily used for private events and guided tours from April to October every year. The main pool is now fully drained, and is regularly used as a wedding venue with a difference. It is also used by local artists to exhibit their work - it’s a perfect, spacious location, with the option to hang installations from the beams above - and sometimes hosts plays and dance performances. Every Wednesday the team behind the restoration project hold guided tours, giving an insight into the history behind the building. You’ll also find the occasional tea dances and vintage markets being held here too.
