A venue with a rich musical history, Sound Control has evolved over the years from music shop to music venue. Spread out over three floors, the venue has a healthy mix of live gigs and club nights. The current owners took over the old music shop and re-opened in 2010 as a music venue, and have gone on to host a huge amount of well-known names including The Maccabees, Tame Impala and Graham Coxon. Located just off Oxford Road, the venue was previously one of the city's most popular music shops, supplying gear to some of Manchester's most iconic musicians; it now sees busy crowds of music fans on a regular basis, whether that be in the basement venue, the cosy bar on the ground floor, or the attic stage upstairs. It's a student favourite any day of the week with cheap drinks offers and club nights to suit any taste, whether it's rock, hip hop or Motown and soul that you're into. Opening hours depend on the event, so check the website for details each night. [Charlotte Davies]
