Fancy experiencing polar winds and the warmth of rasping volcanoes, unkeen on the idea of forking out for the plane tickets? Interested in the history of our little planet but too impatient to wait for the inevitable invention of the time machine? Want to be plunged into a 360 degree dome theatre which makes for an enormously immersive viewing experience?

You're in luck, curious and ambitious friend. For, nestled beside Salisbury Crags is the glorious Dynamic Earth, a visitor centre whose function - to expose guests to the history of the whole world - is somewhat unique to the United Kingdom. Using super-geeky, very impressive technology, Dynamic Earth takes patrons a pretty incredible geographical and historical adventure. Sure, entry costs a bit more of a whack to the wallet than a cinema ticket, but c'mon - how does one put a price on a quest through time and space?

Opening hours change according to season, so keep an eye on the website for up-to-date visitor information and event listings.

Take your kids, take your partner or go by yourself and learn something wonderful about this ridiculous, amazing world in which we live. (We'd like to award bonus points for the cleverly named "Natural Selection Giftshop" and adorable sounding "Ocean Commotion" softplay.)
