Abbot House Heritage Centre

The Skinny wouldn't often encourage you to visit a building the colour of Battenburg cake, but Abbot House's chalky pink exterior guards a grittily versatile history. Not many venues can lay claim to functioning as an armoury, a fighter-pilot training base, and an art school, but throughout the centuries, Abbot House's chameleonic transformation has cemented it in the esteem and affection of locals and tourists alike. Now part-museum, Abbot House also hosts regular theatre and musical events. With a cracking tea-shop, picturesque courtyard gardens, and a gift store, this little piece of Scottish history piques the interest of 21st century visitors by keeping its past alive.
