Aberdeen Belmont
Along with Edinburgh's Cameo, Aberdeen's much-maligned Belmont is another example of just why the recently threatened Picturehouse Cinemas should be fought for at all costs. Since screening its first footage of Queen Victoria at Balmoral over 100 years ago, the Belmont's 2000 makeover has seen it function as more than just a movie theatre, with regular events including a weekly film quiz; private hire/conference facilities; Silver Screen and Big Scream special film schedules; and, quite brilliantly, the opportunity to hire out one of the three cinemas to screen a film of your selection. There's also a bustling café-bar where aspiring artists can book exhibitions of their work.
