Whistlebinkies, Edinburgh

Everyone who's ever been to Edinburgh has had a memorable night out end up in 'Binkies (this may not be strictly true, but it's close enough).

And when a van pulls alongside the pavement in Edinburgh, and a load of guys all shout at you for directions, they're looking for 'Binkies (this is true, as in: fact).

'Binkies deserves its rarely spoken about but widely acknowledged status as an Edinburgh institution. They have live music every night; it's free entry (well, it's a couple of quid after midnight on the weeekends, but basically it's free entry); and it's open 'til 3am (5am during the Festival).

You probably know all this, though.

Hi there, we really enjoyed the four bands we heard at Whistle Binkies over the New Year period. Thankyou for that, as apart from one other venue, there wasn't anything live in the way of rock/blues/punk that we found in Edinburgh.
The relaxed atmosphere and warmth from the cold icy weather was also very welcome. Best wishes for 2010, Sue Smith and Phil Freizinger
