The Pleasance

The Pleasance is part of The University of Edinburgh buildings and so during term time has a friendly atmosphere consisting mostly of students. Easy going and cheap but you do need to have or be with someone who has a student card to enter during normal hours. However, during Edinburgh Festival over the month of August these buildings come alive, hosting several rooms to showcase a large variety of performances. Furthermore, the outside area is transformed into a pub garden as tents are put up and benches crammed in. One year the pleasance hosted the BBC live broadcast from the Festival and there are spaces devoted to gallery space as well. During this time, the pleasance could almost a ledge to be an epicenter of EdinburghÃ¢Â€Â™s festivities.
