Grand Ole Opry in Govan opened its doors in 1974 as a Country and Western club, and it continues to be so today.

"And what's so great about the Grand Ole Opry?", I hear you ask. Well, you inquisitive wee researcher, first off, there's live country music every Friday and Saturday night. This – coupled with cheap drinks from the salon bar, no dress code, and the fact that hen and stag parties are welcome – means there's always a great party atmosphere.

What's more, If you catch the Country and Western bug, then during the week you can be schooled in the arts of this begone era: every second Monday they host 'the Gun Club, where you can learn to improve your draw speed and on Tuesday's and Wednesday's there's lessons in line dancing and 50s jive. Boasting two dance floors, a well-equipped sound system and a seating capacity of 450, Grand Ole Opry is also a popular venue for charity events and gigs. More recently it has branched out into other genres, being one of the host venues for Celtic Connections and also seening big names like Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds appear on the live bill.

And that, pal, is what's so great about Grand Ole Opry.
