At about a tenner a ticket, the Glasgow Science Centre isn’t the cheapest way to kill a few hours, but it’s certainly one of the most effective. The money gets spent on the interactive exhibitions and games that fill the centre’s three floors, the likes of which appear to have come a long way since that school trip you went on when you were a nipper. Of particular interest are the various opportunities to make a fool of yourself, including the chance to transform yourself into a beast, compete for the chance to go into space, and a theremin – star of many a bad sci-fi soundtrack, as well as the Midsomer Murders theme. YouTube it if you’re unsure.

The Glasgow Science Centre promotes itself as a learning experience, however much of what you’ll encounter is primarily aimed at children. Then again, you can never be sure of what you don’t know. The third floor features temporary exhibitions, and also attached to the centre is the planetarium, often cited as the finest in the UK. Entry is an additional few quid, and offers audiences the chance to view the nightsky as it would appear completely free of light pollution.
