Glasgow Green is the oldest park in the city - King James II gifted it to Glasgow's people way back in 1450. It was used as the main hub of the 2014 Commonwealth action, but even if there's no sporting glory to partake in, there's plenty else to do. The park is home to a number of interesting buildings, including the fantastic Templeton Carpet Factory, which is now the location of WEST brewery. There's also the People's Palace and Winter Gardens, where you can find exotic plants at exotic temperatures, and just outside, the Doulton Fountain, which has been beautifully restored and is the oldest terracotta fountain in the world. Glasgow Green is full of little surprises like that – it even has resident horses! – and is big enough to spend a whole afternoon wandering round, whilst being right in the heart of the east end and its many pubs, cafes and attractions.
