O2 Academy

The O2 Academy, previously named the Carling Academy, is located in the South side of Glasgow. Housed in a former Art Deco cinema, it's arguably one of Glasgow's best gig venues offering the middle ground between intimate gig and stadium tour. Inside the ornate architecture has been refurbished to its former glory and the layout of the building includes standing space in front of the stage and seating on the balcony. The large capacity of the venue allows for a bill of established acts, which has seen them host gigs for the likes of Blondie, Morrissey and Amy Winehouse. But, pleasingly, the O2 Academy doesn't stick to one music genre but instead offers a mix of rock, pop and dance gigs. It is also home to the notorious Club Noir, a burlesque club night with DJs, live music and tittilating performance that always sells out.
