Deep in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, nestled beneath the sinister underbelly of the Cowgate and the anxiously tourist-friendly Royal Mile, lies a staple of alternative music culture. As one of the city's most prolific club/gig venues, Cabaret Voltaire's stellar range of themed music nights has allowed them to build up a staunch fanbase of indie-electro afficionados. Gleaming dark woodwork and floor spotlights dominate the main club and gig-space, where everyone from Los Campesinos! to Mumford and Sons have graced the stage; and while drinks are verging on the pricey, Cab Vol's classy ambience and effortless cool points are more than worth the extra pennies. To sum up, it's an Edinburgh institution, ayes. Go dance.
