Black Bo's
This back alley drinking spot is a rare find in central Edinburgh. Do not be put off by the garish electric blue sign as inside you will find small wooden tables, candles in wine bottles and two cosy rooms. It is dark inside, but this is never a bad thing for a small pub. However, this does not obscure the intriguing images on the walls, there to contemplate if in a drunken ponder you happen to look up. You will have to fight for a seat if you arrive too late but standing isn't so bad as long as you don't get in the way of the resident DJ sometimes tucked into one corner. And space only gets restricted as the night wears on. The top position in this bar is the long wooden table, reminiscent of a school bench that sits by the front window. But you will only get that if you are early and sometimes this bar does not contain enough good music to see you through a whole night. Good smoking and outdoor area also worth checking out.
