An instantly recognisable part of Manchester known for its sheer size and white lettering on each side, the Great Northern Warehouse is one of the city’s most popular leisure complexes. Originally built in 1899 as a railway transport interchange for goods arriving by rail into the now defunct Manchester Central Station, it closed in 1963 and sat empty for 50 years, before going through a huge redevelopment into what it is today. The Deansgate dominating warehouse is now home to a 16 screen cinema, a casino, a bowling alley, a gym, a James Martin owned restaurant, and plenty of bars, and buzzes with life throughout the day and night. The addition of a public square in the front is occasionally used for events throughout the summer, and the warehouse is also home to the much-loved Friday Food Fight — bringing independent food and drink traders to Deansgate every week.
