What's On Scotland 28 Sep-5 Oct: Jury Play

This week in Scottish culture: Edinburgh gives peace a chance with Jury Play and a World Justice Festival; She Is Fierce host their first Noisy Girls Club, and Dave Clarke touches down at SWG3...

It's a widely held sentiment that being called for jury duty is a massive pain in the arse. So why, you might ask, would we recommend Jury Play, Grid Iron's immersive show set in a courtroom? But this play, written by Ben Harrison and Dr Jenny Scott, is a democratic experiment that gives you, the audience, an opportunity to take part in the courtroom proceedings. It's an 'experiment in democracy' which does away with the jargon and pomp, placing fairness (and members of the audience) centre-stage (The Traverse, Edinburgh 3-7 Oct, times vary).

Speaking of fairness, the Edinburgh World Justice Festival also hits the capital this week (30 Sep-16 Oct). The festival began back after the G8 meeting of 2005 in Scotland, when promises were made that still haven't materialised. It's less of a granola affair than you'd expect; though the programme features protests and demos, there are also screenings, workshops, exhibitions and more.
