Riverside Festival

The Riverside Museum, Glasgow, 28 & 29 May, 2.30pm

Hey, look – yet another bank holiday! What are we, continental Europe? We wish. Well, might as well celebrate with a festival – luckily, Electric Frog and Pressure’s Riverside Festival, featuring Fatboy Slim, Gary Beck, Julio Bashmore, Sven Väth and Jackmaster (among many, many more) can accommodate for that. If dollar’s tight this month, check out SWG3’s afterparties both nights for a tenner. Image: Kate Johnston

ECA campus, Edinburgh, 28 May-5 Jun, 11am

Round off your month on good art-pondering form with ECA’s 2016 Degree Show. The Stand Bank Holiday Specials

The Stand, Glasgow & Edinburgh, 29 May, 8.30pm

It's all well and good indulging in a little weekend stand-up, sure, but there's just something about the impending doom of Monday morning that sort of extinguishes the fun of Sunday night comedy. But not this month! Take full advantage of your bank holiday Monday and claim some guilt-free belly-laughs at The Stand's extra special line-ups in Glasgow and Edinburgh this Sunday. Magical Forest Light Show

Garage, Glasgow, 28 May, 11pm

A tasty clubbing alternative to Glasgow's Riverside Festival, Garage's inaugural light show takes place this Saturday. Employing the types of visuals and decor used to transport Ibiza and Berlin clubbers to states of trippy, light-bathed bliss, Garage will transform into psychedelic forest through 'til 4am. What's more, every single room of the club will be open and throbbing with a different genre of music, making for what's set to be a belter of an evening. Image: Lewis MacDonald

Mono/Poly

Electric Circus, Edinburgh, 27 May, 7pm

Also known as Chris Barkerfield, Mono/Poly specialises in syncopated, jittery hip-hop instrumentals. His most recent LP, Golden Skies was met with both acclaim and confusion when he dropped it in 2014 via Flying Lotus’ label Brainfeeder, mostly due to its eclectic and unpredictable nature – but they’re always the best kinds of records, right? Make up your own mind at his live date this week.

Off The Hook: Soul, Seafood & Champagne

Chinaskis, Glasgow, 29 May, 3pm

Barflies unite – it's time to celebrate ten years of Chinaski's. To mark the occasion, the haunt will be serving lobster, scallops and seafood, washed down with Champagne and cocktails. Andrew Divine's on the decks, keeping things soulful along with HUSH, Flore De Hoog and Ewan Chambers and the festivities will continue through 'til the stroke of midnight.

Kings Stables Road, Edinburgh, 27 May-4 June, 12pm daily

Hidden Door Festival returns to Edinburgh with nine days and nights with headliners, including NZCA Lines, Rival Consoles, Teleman, Jonnie Common, Rosie Lowe, Jane Weaver and Luke Abbott, plus as much art, theatre, cinema and spoken word as can be crammed into your average abandoned street lighting depot. Visit one of four bars, grab some street food and explore the Electric City. The festival's city centre location is perfect for daytrippers from Glasgow and further afield too. Other acts include Lanterns on the Lake, Meilyr Jones, Bossy Love, Withered Hand, Nimmo and This is the Kit. Image: Chris Scott

Sundara Karma

Oran Mor, Glasgow, 31 May, 7pm,

Indie quartet Sundara Karma are set to visit Oran Mor on Tuesday as part of their UK tour, bringing with them a trunk full of exhilarating arena-ready treats. Yep, you may well have over-indulged in bank holiday fun and be left voiceless, cashless and healthless, but not to worry – the gig's taking place on the very last day of the month, coinciding beautifully with pay day. So that works out nicely, doesn't it?

Lindy West: Shrill

Glasgow Women's Library, Glasgow, 1 June, 6pm

Lauded by Lena Dunham, championed by Caitlin Moran, trolled to the extreme by internet misogynists, Lindy West is an acclaimed American author who started out as one of Jezebel's most prolific bloggers. She's now a Guardian columnist, a GQ scribe and author of Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman – and she's coming to GWL to tell us all about it. Programmed by TYCI, the event will consist of readings and chit-chats, followed by a book signing with Lindy herself. Squeal!

Edinburgh Whisky Stramash

Surgeon’s Hall, Edinburgh, 28-29 May, times vary

Did you miss out on International Whisky Day last week? Don't despair, fair tipple-sipper. You're in Scotland! There's always whisky-based fun to be had. Exhibit A: The Whisky Stramash. A ticket entitles you to try lots of lovely liquor, and you can throw a few extra coins at the night to get some pie, too. Winner, winner, whisky dinner. Image: Joshua Rappeneker

Queer Theory

Nice 'N' Sleazy, Glasgow, 1 June, 7.30pm

Queer Theory cabaret returns to Glasgow, on the first day of June, enlisting musicians, comedians, performance artists and poets to geek up on queerness and flip a couple of birds at The Man. Head along to Sleazy's to get involved, exploring what’s ‘beneath the belt and deep inside the heart’ with the likes of Black Doves, Scott Agnew (pictured) and Anna Secret Poet.
