Leeds gigs in August from Dice

We look ahead to live music in Leeds this August with our DICE round-up, featuring everything from jazz and funk to hard-edged garage rock

Thundercat
The virtuoso bassist has worked with a veritable who's who of modern hip-hop and jazz, providing low-end sounds for everyone from Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar to Kamasi Washington and Erkyah Badu. He hits Leeds in support of his 2015 mini-album The Beyond / Where The Giants Roam; if past gigs are anything to go by, expect one hell of a show. 9 Aug, Brudenell Social Club, £10

Silver Apples

Pioneers of machine music and avant-garde electronica, Silver Apples present their experimental minimalist sounds at the Belgrave. 24 Aug, Belgrave Music Hall, £12.50

Mothers

Athens, Georgia four-piece Mothers blend dreamy rhythms with frontwoman Kristine Leschper's haunting vocals to impressive effect. The Wichita Records signings released their debut LP earlier this month following a string of shows at this year's SxSW; time to get on board the hype train. 25 Aug, Headrow House, £7

Thee Oh Sees

John Dwyer and co may be fourteen albums into their career, but last year's Mutilator Defeated At Last proved that the band have no intention of slowing down. Catch them up close and personal. 2 Sep, Leeds University, £15

Tim Burgess and Peter Gordon

Following on from their Record Store Day release in 2015, Gordon and Burgess join forces in the live arena. Expect a unique combination of Gordon's dark sounds and Burgess's vocals – not to be missed. 4 Sep, Brudenell Social Club, £17
