First Look: The Adjustment Bureau

Feature by Nicola Balkind | 04 Jun 2010

Although it stars Matt Damon as a politician, that is (thankfully) not the characterisation upon which the plot of the film rests.

David Norris (Damon) and Englishwoman in New York Elise Sellas (Blunt) meet at a party one night. When their paths cross a second time, Damon is visited by the Adjustment Bureau - the controllers of fate who say that the couple were not intended to meet a second time. He is faced with an ultimatum: He must leave her in order for their dreams to be restored.

But it wouldn't be a Damon feature without some good old chase scenes.

The Adjustment Bureau is the directorial debut of George Nolfi, the man who penned Ocean's Twelve and The Bourne Ultimatum. With the look of a 1950s New York gangster film and unexpected paranormal feel of Shyamalan's early features, this may be the emerging aesthetic of a director we will soon come to recognise.

Released on 30 July.
