Cinderella Open Auditions

Do you have what it takes to be the next pantomime superstar?

It's a well-known fact that most Edinburgh residents find themselves forced to focus their existence on two important annual dates - the Festival in August and Hogmanay. The rest of the year is spent in a seemingly eternal limbo, in which all their efforts to ignore the always-impending festivites are constantly thwarted. With the Festival fast approaching (keep your eyes peeled, Skinny readers, we'll be going weekly in August), Christmas and New Year seems far away indeed. However, the pantomimes we all love or love to hate have already begun their planning process. The King's Theatre in Edinburgh have always enjoyed a runaway festive season; the success of last year's Mother Goose and 2004's Aladdin have served in cementing their place as the premier panto destination in Scotland's capital.

2006 sees the 100th anniversary pantomime production at the King's Theatre, and the panto in question is Cinderella. Starring Andy Gray, Allan Stewart and Grant Stott, regular panto stars at the King's, the producers are seeking special new talent for this year's production and will be holding open auditions for the lead roles. To audition for Cinderella, a good-looking, vivacious and bright girl in her early twenties and at least 5'5" is required. Similarly, to audition for the chivalrous Prince, you must also be in your early twenties, as well as being tall, athletic and ruggedly-handsome.

Do you have what it takes to be the next pantomime superstar? The open auditions will take place at the Festival Theatre, Edinburgh, on Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 July, between 10am-1pm for the role of the Prince (Boys) and 1pm-4pm for Cinderella (Girls).
