Confusion

Getting confused and sexy

Article by Virginia Kennard | 07 Oct 2010

A provocative poster promises much for Confusion Is Sex, though little to hint at the Twisted Disney nature of it all. Turning up as a slutty version of Minnie Mouse, namely Mickey's dirty bit on the side, it seems many had the same thought. In fact dress up parties are always an excuse for extra skanky clothing for the ladies; wouldn't it be grand if the men thought the same? A bit of bare chest, tight pant would certainly not go unappreciated! Though the partners in crime appreciated the array of gay men present.

The Bongo had set up some great head-spinning twists on Disney - personal favourite being Snow White doing a line of coke. Assumption being, if one's only offer is a selection of mono-emotive dwarves, hardline drugs definitely would take you mind off the task at hand...

What sets Confusion is Sex apart from generic club nights (the usual mix of DJs and bad selection of beverages) is the Sex part. There are the Kamikaze Girls and their displays of pole and burlesque skill. A Dorothy in Oz opens the titillating offers, though apart from a cheeky grin and red high heels, was just another seen-it-all-before burlesque routine, barely playing with the audience's expectations. Later the pole dancing exhibitions were certainly skillful, but it was only Hitler (who also won best costume) who had any kind of sexual performative connection with her audience. Later, it was discovered that the Kamikaze girls are an avenue by which women can practice and demonstrate their hard-earned pole skills; it would help if performance techniques too were honed. Though where was the ballet and sparkle promised? As always, the Bongo is a fabulously shabby venue for a good boogie and a sex-charged night out.
