New Territories
The National Review is the grand finale of the New Territories Festival. Once a European dance festival, it has gradually evolved into an international celebration of performance that straddles several forms: this year, it includes experimental music (Vocal Sonics), puppetry from Fleur Elise Noble, a homage to Bauhaus artist Oscar Schlemmer and the RSAMD's annual Into the New Festival, where the students of Contemporary Performance Practice bring out their ideas.
New Territories is a restless festival, finding new work and new forms – yet the return of Catherine Diverres will be welcome for fans of contemporary dance's outer limits. After several years using Tramway as a base, New Territories is spreading across Glasgow, with events at the CCA and The Arches and even the Apple Store.
While the stand alone pieces have a clearer connection to tarditional dance or theatre events, their content and style often reflect the same tumult as the NRLA or Into The New: urgent, energetic, and discovering new patterns and theatrical strategies.
