Lupe Fiasco - Kick Push

KanYe Mid-West

Single Review by Caroline Hurley | 15 Jul 2006
Single title: Kick Push
Artist: Lupe Fiasco
Label: Atlantic
Opening with the requisite amount of 'whoos', the latest single from KanYe Mid-West is dedicated to 'homies' doing things 'legally and illegally, nahmtalkinbout?' Yes Lupe, a deaf, autistic plank of wood could probably decipher the subtleties of your lyrics. Skateboarding eh? How cool. Mentions girls too, and he's probably wearing Cartier at the time - I'm not sure, after the eighty-ninth time the horn loop rolled around I'd fallen asleep. Supposedly about 'rebels without a cause with no place to be', which is heartening because without this sort of record, skating would really struggle to get the kind of mainstream attention it so rightly deserves. Or this could be blatant exploitation of one over-the-'counter'-culture by another. All cash and no content. [Caroline Hurley]
This single is out on June 19.
