V/A - The Dragonette I Get Around remixes

Zipped and ready for dancefloor corruption

Single title: The Dragonette I Get Around remixes
Artist: V/A
Label: Mercury Records
These remixes kick off with Van She's vocal mix interpretation of Dragonette's first single from their new album, Galore, entitled I Get Around. The new wave electro pop outfit, signed to Modular Records, have remixed the likes of The Presets and the Young Pony Club, and now they turn their attentions to Dragonette's 80s inspired electro pop. The intro sounds familiarly like Diana Ross' Chain Reaction, before breaking into breathy echoes, repetitive keyboard, zipped and ready for dancefloor corruption. Mere snippets of the vocals are used, namely the 'If you don't tell on me, I won't tell on you' lyric, and are almost completely ommitted from their dub mix, which is segmented and roughly stitched back together, resplendent with organ keys and a thumping bass beat.

Ratcliffe's remix mashes up the vocal to the tune of urban dance and an odd sound effect that can only have been taken from the Super Mario game (you know the bit when you get the mushroom?). The dub is even more chilled out, and unrecognisable in any way when compared to the original, but this is not necessarily a good thing this time around. Only the deep acid-style section towards the end brings some redemption.

Electronic legend Arthur Baker brings 70s guitar rock to the remix, communicating a harder statement with the repeated lyric of 'Here I AM!'. Oliver Koletski's remix sounds a bit Clash, with a generous dash of electro indie; telling a story of regretful one night stands, a narrative not communicated with such melancholy in the original vocals. The full song is revealed on the Midnight Juggernauts remix (soon to feature on a compilation from French house label Kitsune). The 'Nauts love for the vocoder is evident, and applied to all the vocals, which appear in their fullest on this remix. Synth indie pop, disco and electro house seep through, and it's looking likely to be a floor-filler this summer. [Alex Burden]
