Helene - Apostille

almost a tribute act to the spirit of C86 or the Summer of Love

Single Review by Margaret Kirk | 11 Apr 2007
Single title: Apostille
Artist: Helene
Label: series8
Major to minor chord changes, a shambolic introduction and a fey female vocal that recalls Dylan's phrasing - Helene falls far too easily into the poetic school of indie polemic. As sunny as a Super-8 of the mid-sixties, by turns cutting and hopeful, Apostille is competent, charming and derivative. With a fine turn of phrase, a melody from Like a Rolling Stone and a jangling guitar line, Helene is almost a tribute act to the spirit of C86 or the Summer of Love - charming but forgettable.
