Refreshing, yet not completely unfriendly to Scream bar jukebox rotation.

Single title: Surviving The Death of a Genre/Trick Me
Artist: Capdown
Label: Fierce Panda
Ska is one genre where mediocrity is all too often accepted just for the sake of a brisk skank, but Capdown's sax-led moshpits have always been interstellarly fantastic. With their first album in a fair wee while, the addition of a keyboardist takes the band into some kind of nu-punk rinse whose melody could easily be taken for mainstream bandwagon jumping. But Surviving the Death of A Genre does exactly that, and while the saxophone might be sadly absent it refuses to draw upon old well worn clichés and morphs the ska-punk swagger into something refreshing, yet not completely unfriendly to Scream bar jukebox rotation. More traditional is the B-side, a cheeky cover of Trick Me by Kelis, a perfect track for jumping around and spilling cider to. [Ali Maloney]
