Snow Patrol - Open Your Eyes

not quite as satisfying as lethal self-combustion

Single Review by Jay Shukla | 10 Feb 2007
Single title: Open Your Eyes
Artist: Snow Patrol
Label: Fiction
You know that feeling: when you're sat in a ditch, covered in petrol, but you just can't get the match to strike. Here, Gary Lightbody expertly stretches that feeling out for three agonising minutes. "Tell me that you'll open your eyes," he nags listlessly, about a hundred times in a row. When the band does finally kick in, with politely thrashing guitars and far too many cymbal crashes, it's not quite as satisfying as lethal self-combustion, but hey, at least Gary's stopped singing.
